[00:00:01] Hey, let's talk Gillette what's happening in Gillette next week on October 20th is a Gillette City Council meeting. [00:00:12] Before we get to the agenda, let's take a look at some other City of Gillette happenings in the next week or two. [00:00:18] It's actually a little over two weeks away, but don't forget that Saturday, October 31st is Halloween. [00:00:25] Drive carefully that night and keep an eye out for spooky ghosts and goblins since that night. Those will actually be trick or treaters. [00:00:34] And then a couple days after that, something actually scary the 2026 general election. [00:00:40] Don't forget to vote on November 3rd and then stay tuned after the City Council meeting that night for live election coverage on Gillette public access channel 192. [00:00:50] One of the things on the ballot for the third is the optional 1% sales tax which supports a lot of things here in Gillette in Campbell County. Between 2022 and 2025, 71% of the funds given to the City of Gillette from the tax went to support maintenance of city streets, water and sewer systems along with public safety. If you want more information on what the optional 1% is and how it's used, visit informedgelette.com in between Halloween and elections, I should probably remind you about Daylight Savings Time which ends on Sunday, November 1st. [00:01:27] Don't forget to set your clocks back an hour and also pretend like that isn't kind of a stupid thing to do. [00:01:34] Here's what's on the October 20th city council agenda. [00:01:38] Council will consider several bid awards for vehicles. [00:01:42] Two big vehicles will be for the solid waste division, a side load garbage truck and a rear load garbage truck. There will also be three three four ton four wheel drive crew cab long bed pickups, two 4x4 police responder crew cab pickups, one utility police interceptor all wheel drive SUV and a partridge in a pear tree. Not really, although you could grow a PA pear tree here if you wanted. According to Trees and Shrubs of Gillette in Campbell County, a book from the City of Gillette Forestry Division, several varieties of pears are suitable for Campbell county, including gourmet pears and summer crisp pears. [00:02:19] If you want to learn more, I've linked the PDF of trees and shrubs of Gillette and Campbell county in the description, Partridges are not native to the area, but they're from the same family as sage grouse, so that's probably close enough. [00:02:33] Council will consider acceptance of the City West Roof Replacement project which replaced the old hail damaged roof membrane system with a new adhered roof Membrane assembly with 2 inch hail warranty. I wasn't sure so I looked it up. 2 inch hail warranty means that it's guaranteed for hail up to 2 inches in diameter, not that the membrane is 2 inches thick. [00:02:55] There's a bit of word on the agenda for the Lathe and Copper Rule verification project. [00:03:00] The EPA is requiring the city to verify what pipes are made of at around 400 randomly selected locations throughout the city water system. [00:03:10] To do this, 149 of those locations will need their pipes dug up on either side of the curb stop to verify they aren't made of lead. [00:03:18] Just one optional 1% project on the agenda. This A professional services agreement for the sunburst subdivision, mill and overlay project. [00:03:28] Council will also have the first reading of an amendment to Chapter 5 of the City City Code. Chapter 5 is the section of the City Code about buildings and the amendment is intended to make it clear when engineered plans are required for new and existing construction, both residential and commercial. [00:03:45] It would add subsection I to City Code 5 Roman Numeral 1:1. [00:03:52] With respect to residential construction or alterations, engineered plans are required for a. [00:03:59] All foundations, footings and mono slams. B. [00:04:04] The use of any engineered product for framing or structure, pole, barn construction, heavy timber construction C. Electrical Any electrical system with a service size more than 400amps single phase any alternative energy system Mechanical Any mechanical system with more than 200 CFM all commercial kitchen cooking hoods E. Fire all fire protection systems and fire detection systems Engineer or nicet or nice T level 3 or greater with respect to commercial applications, engineered planes are required for a. Structural the use of any engineered product for framing or structure, pole, barn construction, heavy timber construction, electrical Any electrical system with a service size more than 400amps single phase any alternative energy system D.
