[00:00:01] Hey, let's talk Gillette.
[00:00:08] What's happening in Gillette? Next week on December 2nd is a Gillette City Council meeting.
[00:00:13] Before we get to the agenda, let's take a look at some other City of Gillette happenings in the next week or two.
[00:00:19] If you're hearing this right away, it's Wednesday, but usually I publish these on Friday. Why the early post this time?
[00:00:28] Because if you're hearing this on Thursday or Friday, I am most likely at home taking a nap. Because city offices are closed Thursday and Friday for Thanksgiving, one city service will still be available on Friday when solid waste runs a double trash route. So if your regular trash day is Thursday and thus Thanksgiving, you can give thanks that it'll still be picked up on Friday.
[00:00:51] One of my pet peeves is when people start Christmas too early, they I think it goes back to my time working overnights in a retail store when Christmas music would start to play at 12:01am on November 1st.
[00:01:06] I don't want to see or hear or think about Christmas until after Thanksgiving at least.
[00:01:12] Anyway, now that Thanksgiving is here, I can tell you about the Holiday Lighting Contest. If you, or a neighbor or a friend have a brilliant lighting display at a residential address in the City of Gillette, you can nominate it for the 2025 holiday lighting contest by following the link in the description to the online lighting contest entry form or sending an email to holidaylightingcontestillettewy.gov Nominations should include your name, the address of the house to be judged, your phone number and email address, and a photo of the decorated home. The nominations must be received by 5pm on December 8 because on December 9 judges from the Campbell County Senior center will review nominations and select the judges choice winners.
[00:01:56] There will be Prizes and on December 16, the top 10 entries will be featured in the Gillette News Record for the people to vote on their favorites. For more information on the 2025 holiday lighting contest, check out the link in the description.
[00:02:10] Speaking of holidays, it's the holiday season and for lots of people that means travel. It's kind of unfortunate that some of the biggest travel days of the year are also in the winter months when driving is at its most hazardous.
[00:02:24] If you're going to be traveling this holiday season, or even just plan on leaving leaving your house when it snows, you should watch the latest Eye on Gillette on YouTube where we talk to City Streets Manager Scott Ostlen and Gillette Police Officer Keith Storey for some winter safety tips. You can find Eye on Gillette on the City of Gillette YouTube channel. Or for simplicity's sake, just click the link I posted in the description. Wherever you go this holiday season, drive carefully.
[00:02:51] Here's what's on the December 2nd city council agenda it's going to be the soggiest City Council meeting for a while.
[00:02:59] Very nearly all of the items on the agenda will be about water or wastewater.
[00:03:05] Council will consider acceptance of the final phase of the Gillette Madison Pipeline Project, which originally started in 2011. This last phase installed three new pumping stations and associated equipment. Then the next water project for approval is acceptance of Phase three of the Gillette Regional Water Supply Project.
[00:03:24] This one provides water services to the Freedom Hills Improvement and Service District. America Road says W in S District. I think that must be Water and Sewer and Meadow Springs Improvement and Service District.
[00:03:37] Both optional 1% supported items for this meeting are sewer related.
[00:03:42] First is Council acceptance of public improvements for the 640 North Highway 1416 sewer improvements. Then there will be council consideration of a bid award for the Alley sewer replacement project, which will replace the sewer main underneath the alley between Ross and Richards Avenue from Second street to Fifth Street.
[00:04:00] The only other item on the agenda which does not fit into the thematic organization of the rest of the meeting is the third reading of the ordinance to repeal the Malicious Harms Ordinance.
[00:04:12] That's a brief look at the December 2nd meeting.
