[00:00:01] Hey, let's talk Gillette.
[00:00:07] What's happening in Gillette? Next week on December 16th is a Gillette City Council meeting.
[00:00:13] Before we get to the agenda, let's take a look at some other City of Gillette happenings in the next week or two.
[00:00:19] This is the last agenda review podcast of the year, so even though it's a couple weeks out, this is the best time to tell you all that city offices will be closed at noon on Christmas Eve. All day Christmas Day. An all day New Year's Day. If your regular trash day is Christmas, maybe Santa will take it. Or if he doesn't, City Solid Way's Cruise will run a double round on Friday.
[00:00:43] It hasn't been Christmas yet, but have you considered how you're going to throw away your tree?
[00:00:50] I promise I'm not being a Scrooge or a Grinch or some other third Christmas movie villain.
[00:00:58] I don't know, Heat Miser? Was he the villain of that movie?
[00:01:03] Think it's a good idea to plan ahead when it does come time to dispose of your Christmas tree, you can dispose of it at the Christmas Tree Drop off facility in the parking lot of the Tech center at Gillette College. The drop off will be available during the month of January and any trees dropped off will be chipped into mulch for the community gardens.
[00:01:21] But for now, your Christmas decorations are still useful and maybe you need some more. You can get more and also support the Friends of the Animal Shelter by bidding in the Whiskers, Wreaths and Wet Noses event. You can check out the selection of wreaths and place bids in the comments on the photos on the Facebook page until 6:30pm on Friday, December 19th. Then on the 19th from 5 to 7pm you can see all the wreaths up close during the in house event. All proceeds from the fundraiser will go towards providing medical care for animals.
[00:01:54] Aside from treats and wreaths, the next most prominent Christmas decoration is obviously Christmas lights. And while the submittal period for the annual Holiday lighting contest has ended, you can still participate by voting on your favorite displays, which will be in the newspaper on the 16th and also on the city and newspaper's respective Facebook pages. Voting ends on the 19th, so check it out and help determine which lighting display is the best in the City of Gillette.
[00:02:22] Here's what's on the December 16th city council agenda Council will be accepting a number of items at this meeting. They'll accept the annual Financial Audit report and the Heated Vehicle Storage Roof Restoration Project and then they'll accept two optional water 1% supportive the donkey Creek Flood Study final report and the Arlington Court Drainage Access report.
[00:02:44] Then there's one new optional 1% project for council to consider when they consider a professional services agreement for the Westover Road retaining wall project.
[00:02:53] I guess every year when it storms hard, the soil slope on Westover Road near Oregon Avenue erodes away and the soil spills into the street and then has to be cleaned up by streetscrews. This project would be to fix that. Council will also consider authorizing the Mayor to sign a couple of things. One is a well maintenance M9 and M10 quote agreement to have parts checked on the Madison 9 and 10 wells and to replace them if they've pitted or worn out. They have to do this every five years.
[00:03:23] The other thing for the Mayor to sign is a change of status form for appointed positions. The appointed positions in question are the City Administrator and City Attorney and the change in status is that they are getting raises after their performance evaluation evaluations with the council.
[00:03:38] There's also some planning items on the agenda. Council will consider after a public hearing amending the district zoning map for a portion of the north half of the north half of the Northeast quarter of the Southwest Quarter and all of the southeast quarter of the Northwest Quarter Section 6, Township 49 Range 72 or, because that's an unwieldy nightmare of a description, 4500 Force Road, which the owners would like to change to rural residential zoning.
[00:04:04] Another district zoning map amendment will also have a public hearing and can Council consideration rezoning part of the Pronghorn Ranch Phase 3 to Rural Residential as well. There's one other public hearing at this meeting to discuss the transfer of Tanner Village and Inspiration hall, associated lots to the college. Tanner Village and Inspiration hall are the student housing options for Gillette College.
[00:04:29] That's a brief look at the December 16th meeting.
