[00:00:01] Hey, let's talk Gillette what's happening in Gillette next week on August 4? So on Maunday and one day earlier than usual, it's a Gillette City Council meeting. Before we get to the agenda, let's take a look at some other City of Gillette happenings in the next week or two. The city council meeting will be one day early on Monday the 4th, so that council and members of the public can participate in National Night Out. Just now, looking at what I said about National Night out the last two times I talked about it for the podcast, I realized that I talked about why they're doing the event to foster a sense of community between neighbors and law enforcement. But I said nothing about what the event would actually be or where. The event will be from 5 to 8pm on Tuesday, August 5th in the 3rd Street Plaza and feature free food, first responder vehicles for you to get a better look at, K9 and drone demonstrations, a temporary tattoo station and opportunities to meet and ask questions with first responders from the City of Gillette Police Department, Campbell County Fire Department, Campbell County Sheriff's Office and Campbell county ems. [00:01:13] Strange as it seems, summer is coming to an end. School starts back up here in a couple of weeks and when it does, the city pool will also close for the season. [00:01:22] There will be no evening swim sessions from 6pm to 8pm from Aug. 11 to the 14th, and it will close for the season on Aug. 15 at 4:30. [00:01:33] The Gurley overpass will close for its annual maintenance the Deck Injection project on Monday, August 4, and it will be closed until August 15. In the meantime, if you need to cross the railroad tracks to get to the north part of town, it'd be fastest to cross at Brooks or Burma unless there's a train, in which case you can either wait for the train to go away or go to the underpass just past the intersection of 2nd street and Echida on the west side of town, or the I90 overpass on the east side. [00:02:03] If you like, you can see if there's a train crossing at Brooks or Burma on the city website Railroad Crossings page, which I have linked to in the description. [00:02:13] Here's what's on the August 4th city council agenda. [00:02:17] There are two special event permits on the agenda. One of them is another extension of an existing special event permit so that a tent can be set up for Gillette Main Street's Bruise and Cruise event on September 6th. The event is September 6th, but they've requested the street be closed after 6pm on September 5th as well so they have time to set up a tent. The other special event permit is for an event including live music in City park from 6 to 8pm on September 14, requested by the Christian Church of Gillette. [00:02:45] There are six optional 1% sales tax supported projects on the agenda this meeting. And like the vast majority of 1% supported projects, three of them are for streets. Council will consider bid awards for the Warren and 5th street resurfacing repair project and the Foothills Boulevard reconstruction project. [00:03:03] The Foothills Boulevard reconstruction project will sort of straighten out the weird curve on Foothills Boulevard between Greenway Drive and Bridger street. [00:03:12] The other 1% Straits project this time is council acceptance of public improvements for the 2025 pothole repair project. [00:03:19] Then council will consider professional services agreements for two more optional 1% the Heritage Lift Station replacement project and the Remington Drainage Improvements project. [00:03:30] The Remington Drainage improvements are needed because the Remington Estates neighborhood has had frequent flooding, a lot of problems with sump pumps running year round and stormwater just pooling in the streets causing road surfaces to deterior. [00:03:45] The last optional 1% project on the agenda is council consideration of the acceptance of public improvements from the Providence Crossing Park Irrigation Project. [00:03:55] There's another sort of pass through project, one that the city will administer on behalf of the Council of Community Services. The Council of Community Services renovation project is entirely funded by a community Development Block grant. [00:04:09] There's a bid award for the Gillite Regional Water Supply Project. Priority five. [00:04:14] This project would install five and a half miles miles of water transmission lines to the Gillette Regional Airport and the Means Improvement and Service District as a backup for their existing water supplies. The airport has a well, but if something goes wrong with it, they'd be stuck with no backup. And the Means Improvement Service District has two wells, but neither one could cover peak water demand without the other one. [00:04:36] The County Commissioners and the Town of Wright have both already approved the fifth amendment to the integrated amended Gillette Wright Campbell County Fire Protection Joint Powers Agreement which aligns the wording of the JP with the actual practices of the Fire Board in terms of human resources, personnel and finance policies and management. It'll be the City Council's turn to approve it at this meeting. [00:04:59] When someone lives outside city limits but wants to be connected to city water and sewer, one of the steps to getting access is a pre annexation agreement. And at this meeting there are two pre annexation agreements before the council. [00:05:11] One for property off of Southern Drive and one for property on South Douglas Highway. [00:05:16] Just one planning item the council will vote on a partial vacation of a utility easement one that contains no utilities, so it's okay to vacate. [00:05:26] In 2017, council passed an ordinance to establish the Electrical Line Extension policy about, well, adding and extending electrical lines and what that requires and what the processes are. At this meeting, Council will consider an ordinance amending that policy. [00:05:43] And finally, the Council will also consider a request from Energy Capital economic development for $10,000 for their energy Capital Startup Challenge Pitch competition. [00:05:53] That's a brief look at the August 4th meeting.
