[00:00:01] Hey, let's talk Gillette. [00:00:08] What's happening in Gillette next week on April 21st is a Gillette City Council meeting. [00:00:14] Before we get to the agenda, let's take a look at some other City of Gillette happenings in the next week or two. [00:00:20] The second City of Gillette Budget Workshop this year will be on April 28th starting at 6pm in the city Council chambers. [00:00:28] At this one, the council and city staff will review the capital improvements projects that will be in next year's budget. Capital improvements projects are any projects the city undertakes, from road repairs to equipment upgrades that cost more than $10,000. [00:00:44] Here's what's on the April 21 City Council agenda. [00:00:48] There are three special event permits on the agenda this time. [00:00:51] One is for the Rockpile Museum's annual Sheep Herders Festival, which is on May 9 during and will close the intersection of 2nd street and a cheater road just from 8:30 to 9:30am I think that's because that's when they move the shape through. [00:01:07] Then there's a closure on Warlow Drive on June 25 from 5:45 to 6:45pm for the annual Children's Memorial Walkway ceremony. [00:01:16] And finally, our only non annual special event permit the Third Street Plaza will be closed on June 23rd from noon to 8pm for the Chamber of Commerce to hold their Meet the Candidates ice cream socials, which is an annual since it only happens in election years, so every other year. I was going to say biannual, but that's for things that happen twice a year. Biennial is every two years. [00:01:43] There are also three optional 1% sales tax supported projects at this meeting. [00:01:48] One is the Cottonwood Park Drainage Improvements Project which will fix up the concrete drainage panels and improve the Cottonwood park pond's ability to handle stormwater. There's another park up for improvements with the Heritage Village Playground Renovations Project. [00:02:01] The last optional 1% supported project on the agenda is the 2026 Crack Sail project, which the city does every year since sealing the cracks in street surfaces can extend their useful lifespan by three to five years. [00:02:14] Here's how it works. [00:02:16] First they widen the cracks to one quarter of an inch wide to create a reservoir for the sealant. Then they blow all the debris and crud out of the cracks with high pressure air since if that stuff is in the cracks the sealant will bond to that instead of the roads. Then they fill the cracks with hot rubberized oil and top it off with an anti tracking chemical. [00:02:38] I'm reasonably sure that anti tracking here means doesn't stick to your tires and not keeps people from following you, although it will keep people from following you if they were following you using the trail of hot rubberized oil stuck to your tires. [00:02:59] Council will consider a bid award for the City West Roof Replacement Project. The City west roof actually needs to be replaced because of a hail claim, so the project will be paid for from the Property Insurance Fund. [00:03:12] Council will consider authorizing the City Council president to sign a workplace safety contract application between the City of Gillette and the State of Wyoming Department of Workforce Services, Workers Compensation and Risk Management. The application requests funding from the state for safety equipment and training and it has to be signed by Heidi Gross, the City Council president, because Mayor Lundvall is on the board for the Wyoming Workforce Development Council. [00:03:38] The City Council issued a request for proposals for police chief recruitment services back in March and at this meeting they will accept one of the proposals they received. [00:03:48] So this isn't hiring a police chief. This is hiring someone to help hire a police chief. [00:03:55] There are also several unfinished business items and resolutions all related to changes to the City code. [00:04:02] As part of the process of amending the fees for the planning department and building and contractor licensing. The fees are being pulled out of chapters 5, 7 and 18 and then placed into resolutions which the Council will also vote on. [00:04:16] There's also a public hearing and council consideration of amendments to chapter 13, the nuisances part of the City code. [00:04:24] That's a brief look at the April 21 meeting.
