[00:00:04] Hey, let's talk Gillette.
[00:00:09] What's happening in Gillette? Next week on November 4th is a Gillette City Council meeting. Before we get to the agenda, let's take a look at some other City of Gillette happenings in the next week or two.
[00:00:20] Today is Halloween.
[00:00:22] By the time you hear this, trick or treating at City hall will probably be over, but I think we can do a little trick or treat right here on the podcast.
[00:00:30] The music I've used here is Takata and Fugue in D minor, probably by Johann Sebastian Bach, although some people argue that it wasn't actually Bach.
[00:00:40] If it wasn't Bach, nobody knows who it really was, so it continues to be attributed to him. As I picked it for today, I started to wonder why this is essentially the default Halloween theme music.
[00:00:54] I looked it up. It turns out during the silent film era, someone would sit in the theater at an organ or piano and and play music to accompany the films. So most films got the same music and a lot of the time evil and villainy was accompanied by Toccata and Fugue in D minor. And then when films got sound, that continued with the song first being used in 1931's Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde.
[00:01:21] So depending on how you feel about trivia, I either treated you to some interesting thanks or tricked you into learning something.
[00:01:29] Happy Halloween.
[00:01:34] Tuesday, November 11th is the day we honor those who have served in our country's armed Forces Veterans Day. In recognition of that, city offices will be closed on November 11, and the city planning meeting that would usually be on that second Tuesday of the month will be on Wednesday the 12th instead. If Tuesday is your regular trash day, actually still put your garbage out on Tuesday.
[00:01:58] Usually when city offices are closed, they run a double route the next day, but city solid waste has decided not to do that this time, so your trash day won't change.
[00:02:09] The annual Veterans Day Parade will air on Gillette Public access television channel 190 at 4, 6, 9 and 11pm that day and be available for streaming online at gillettewy.gov GPA later. The City of Gillette is also recognizing the entire month of November 2025 as a time to salute and honor the service and sacrifices of those transitioning from active milit service by participating in Operation Green Light, where green lights are displayed in windows as a show of support.
[00:02:42] November is also the beginning of seasonal parking restrictions for the year.
[00:02:48] From November 1 through April 30, no recreational vehicles or trailers more than 26ft long may be parked on public streets due to safety concerns.
[00:02:59] Don't Forget this Sunday, November 2nd, is the end of Daylight Savings time for the year, and as every year, I hope it's gone for good.
[00:03:10] It seems really silly to pretend that the time is an hour different on Sunday than it was on Saturday.
[00:03:15] But remember, we all still have to set our clocks back by an hour.
[00:03:22] Here's what's on the November 4th city council agenda Council will consider a settlement agreement and release of claims with Velocity Constructors Incorporated. This is in relation to a lawsuit brought against the city by Velocity over damages the city assessed for the wastewater treatment plant headworks project, which was supposed to be completed by September of 2023 and instead lasted until July of 2025. This agreement was reached by mediation and it stipulates that the city will pay no damages from the lawsuit. It adjusts the contract for the city's requests and sets a new date of substantial completion for the project, which must have happened already because the very next item is council acceptance of public improvements for the wastewater treatment plant headwork.
[00:04:11] There's just one project using optional 1% sales tax funds at this meeting, a professional services agreement for the o' Hara Drive water main project.
[00:04:21] One item from what was very nearly a record shortest Planning commission meeting on October 28, council will consider approving and authorizing the resubdivision of lot 1B of the Updike addition into lots 1C and 1D.
[00:04:36] Or, if you don't have any idea where the Updike addition is, it's 912 N. Gurley Ave. At the corner of Gurley and Clover Road.
[00:04:45] If you're wondering, the Planning Commission meeting on the 28th was 4 minutes and 15 seconds, while the record is 3 minutes and 50 seconds.
[00:04:55] A liquor license is being transferred from the old owners of the Other side Bar and Grill to the new owners. When places that have liquor licenses sell, the City Council has to have a public hearing and then consider approving the transfer of the liquor license, even if nothing else is changing.
[00:05:13] There will also be a public hearing and Council consideration for an ordinance repealing Chapter 14, Section 1442 of the City Code, the Malicious Harms Ordinance.
[00:05:26] That's a brief look at the November 4th meeting. You can find the agenda on the city website gillettewy.gov and click on any item in the agenda to get a deeper explanation of the topic and see any supporting documentation.
