[00:00:01] Hey, let's talk Gillette. [00:00:07] What's happening in Gillette next week on June 16th is a Gillette City Council meeting. Before we get to the agenda, let's take a look at some other City of Gillette happenings in the next week or two. [00:00:19] The 2026 primary election is on August 18th. [00:00:24] Before you vote, it's important to know who you're voting for. [00:00:27] To that end, the Campbell County League of Women Voters will host two candidates forums in the Council Chambers at City hall at 6pm on June 30 and July 1. On the 30th, the forums will feature candidates for Wyoming State races and City of Gillette races. On the 1st, it will feature candidates for Campbell county races. [00:00:48] Both forums will air on Gillette Public access television channel 192live and will replay on that channel later as well as [email protected] also available as a replay and in the online archive this year's Fourth of July Parade. It's gonna be a big one this year since it's the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence and the founding of the United States. The parade begins at 10 on the 4th and will travel down 2nd street from Brooks to Burma. The reported parade will play back on GPA channel 190 at 3 and 9pm on June 22. There will be a Police Department Recognition ceremony held at 5:30pm in the city Council Chambers. [00:01:30] These ceremonies are held every so often and are to celebrate promotions, awards and achievements for the officers in our Gillette Police Department. [00:01:40] June 25th will be the annual Children's Memorial Walkway ceremony starting at 5:45 at the Children's Memorial Garden near the intersection of Brooks and Warlow. The ceremony is to remember those children who were taken from us too soon. [00:01:58] Here's what's on the June 16th city council agenda. There's one special event and open container permit before the council to close Rockpile Boulevard from 2nd to 3rd street on the 4th of July for the American Legion Post 42 2nd to 3rd on the 4th. I just noticed that there's two optional 1% supported projects on the agenda this month. [00:02:21] Or maybe one and a half. [00:02:25] The first one is council acceptance of public improvements for the o' Hara Drive water main replacement project. [00:02:31] The other is a cooperative agreement between the Wyoming Department of Transportation and the city for the Sinclair street extension from butlerspaythe Road to Miranda Avenue. It's listed in the agenda as being Both an optional 1% project and an urban systems project. [00:02:46] And of course it would also partially be a WYDOT project. [00:02:50] There's another YDOT related council consideration to authorize city staff to submit an application for YDOT's fiscal year 2027911 gap funding grant. [00:03:01] The grant money, if approved, would be used to upgrade equipment in dispatch, which would be good considering that dispatch is about to not just be dispatching for the police department, but also the fire department and Campbell County Health ems. [00:03:15] There's another liquor license catering permit for catering in another city before council, this one for an event in ca. [00:03:22] The city council will consider a bid award for the installation of new electrical service drops and the replacement of failed ones. [00:03:30] So before I would have said that an electrical service drop was the same thing as a power outage. It's not obviously, because why would we accept a bid for new power outages and what would it mean if a power outage failed? But no, an electrical service drop is the line running from a utility pole to an electrical customer's building. [00:03:52] There's another bid award for trend trenching and boring services. [00:03:56] I was gonna talk about what this meant and then I decided not to waste our time by talking about boring items. Just kidding. Trenching is essentially digging long holes and boring is digging smaller holes and then sort of tunneling to what you need to get to. [00:04:09] It's construction and utilities stuff. [00:04:12] Council will consider a quote agreement for lining 194 inch diameter manholes for 202 vertical feet. On average. That's a little over 10 and a half feet per manhole. [00:04:25] There are two planning type items on the agenda. There's the final plat of Pronghorn Plaza which will combine six lots all owned by Gillette College into two lots. [00:04:37] The other planning item is council approval for a resubdivision of lot 1D of the Mountain Meadow subdivision into lots 2D and 3D. I assume the ground in lot 2D is flat while lot 3D has hills or valleys. [00:04:52] That is what I imagine and I refuse to look it up. [00:04:56] There are also two professional services agreements for the council to consider at this meeting. [00:05:01] It seems like everything at this meeting comes in pairs, I guess. [00:05:05] One professional services agreement is for marketing agency services to aid in the recruitment of businesses to the Gillette area. [00:05:12] The other professional services agreement is for the creation of a unified development code for the city. [00:05:18] A UDC combines the zoning ordinance, engineering design standards, standard construction specifications, stormwater design manual and subdivision regulations to reduce overlap and put all the information in one place to make it less confusing. [00:05:34] Then it's time for the public hearing and Council consideration of the third and final reading of the budget ordinance for fiscal year 2026 2027. [00:05:45] That's a brief look at the June 16th meeting.
