[00:00:01] Hey, let's talk Gillette.
[00:00:08] What's happening in Gillette next week on August 3rd is a Gillette City Council meeting. Before we get to the agenda, let's take a look at some other City of Gillette happenings in the next week or two. Of course, if you're paying attention, you'll have noticed that August 3rd is Monday, not the usual council meeting Tuesday.
[00:00:25] It's going to be Monday because Tuesday, August 4th is National Night out, so the council meeting was moved a day earlier.
[00:00:33] National Night out is a national obviously event meant to strengthen police, community partnerships and neighborhood camaraderie and it'll be in the Third Street Plaza here in Gillette from 5 to 7pm on Aug. 4. During the event you'll be able to get an up close look at police cars and when else can you do that without being arrested? Ambulances and when else can you do that without being grievously injured? And fire trucks and when else can you? You get the point. There will also be free food, canine and drone demonstrations, a temporary tattoo station, and opportunities to meet and ask questions with first responders from the City of Gillette Police Department, Campbell County Fire Department, Campbell County Sheriff's Office and Campbell County EMS.
[00:01:17] The city pool will close for the season on Aug. 14, since that's the last Friday of summer before school starts back up on August 19th, so it makes sense to close it then. Not only will most patrons pool be going back to school, but a lot of the lifeguards are high school and college kids who will be returning to school as well. But it'll still be hot, so maybe you'd still like free water recreation options here in town. If that's the case, you're in luck because the splash pad will still be open at the Energy Capital Sports Complex until Labor Day.
[00:01:48] Have you got a landscaping project or garden or something you're working on? Did you know you can buy compost or wood chips out at the City of Gillette Wastewater treatment facility? It's $40 per ton for stonepile soil amend biosolids compost and since they actually have a huge surplus of wood chips, you can temporarily get wood chips for free. I've linked to the page about the compost and woodchips on the city website so you can see the specifics of how the compost is made and what's in it. This year's primary election is August 18th and as usual, Gillette Public Access Television will be hosting live election night coverage for local results on GPA Cable Channel 192 and streaming online at gillettewi.gov GPA the coverage will begin after the City Council meeting that night ends and will feature updates on local results as the various precincts come in, as well as interviews with candidates.
[00:02:43] Here's what's on the August 3rd city council agenda It'll probably be a pretty short meeting with only two new business items for the council.
[00:02:52] One is a special event permit for a neighborhood barbeque on Federal Avenue.
[00:02:57] The other is council consideration of approval of a preliminary plat for a new subdivision, Deer Valley, which would be between the Hidden Valley Estates subdivision and the Crestfield subdivision.
